What Are 7/8 Leggings?

Sometimes referred to as midi leggings by certain brands, 7/8 leggings or tights feature an inseam which is 1/8 shorter compared to full-length styles. While not as short as 3/4 leggings, 7/8 tights sit higher on the leg unlike a standard pair of full-length athletic leggings.

Finished in a fashion-forward style designed to provide a sleek silhouette to those who prefer to wear them, 7/8 leggings don’t slash your legs at odd points or engulf you in fabric, which is why they’re so popular. They strike a fine balance between conventional leggings that can be cumbersome for certain workouts, and capri leggings that some wearers may find too short or unflattering.

What makes them great is, of course, their versatility as they’re ideal for wearing to a training or yoga session or as part of your streetwear ensemble.

What to Consider When Buying 7/8 Leggings

To get the right pair of 7/8 active leggings, consider the following criteria:

  • Type of Activity: First and foremost, choose leggings that are appropriate for the activity you will be participating in. For high-intensity activities, look for 7/8 compression leggings that help to improve blood circulation in the legs. For yoga, you may opt for 7/8 seamless leggings for uninterrupted movement.
  • Functionality: If you’re planning to wear 7/8 cotton leggings to an ultramarathon; think again. You might want to reserve your cotton leggings for less intense workouts or sporting events.
